It seems I’ve always thought of myself as an artist. My BFA in oil painting left me sorely aware of how little I knew. Research and experimentation have kept be learning since. I like to take chances and keep myself in unfamiliar turf, so I don’t get overly complacent or let the artwork become glib. This has led me to work in acrylic, gouache, oils, clay, bronze, and encaustic…each bringing something wonderful to the table.
I’ve been lucky to have had numerous opportunities to teach, privately and through workshops for guilds and museums, but also as an instructor of advanced illustration at Lansing Community College. All along I’ve worked as a free-lance illustrator, and for a few years as a Creative Director for a marketing/advertising firm. I’ve won a bunch of awards in illustration and fine art and schedule exhibits regularly.
I’m honored to have been awarded funds for equipment as part of the Chris Clark Fellowship through the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.
